Bloon is known for its Hot Air Balloon Shapes, Inflatable Projects and World Records Inflatables. But always going above and beyond, taking on one of the largest projects yet. Designing, Producing and Installing a 36 Metre Wide set of Inflatable Wings, and a 6m Inflatable Tongue was just the start. Surprisingly, these were both to be installed on the historic monument, the Petit Palais in Paris. This was all done for the artist D*Face and his takeover of the Petit Palais.
Inflatable Wings
To ensure the Inflatable Wings would fit correctly to the building, Bloon used multiple engineering drawings provided by the venue. Multiple 2D and 3D renders were produced on the run up to the installation. The chosen production method was to create an Inflatable Arch with the Wings attached to either side. This created the best support for the Wings and ensured they sat in the correct place. Structural Engineers were used to help calculate the ballast limits and producing drawings. Showing the main mounting point of the inflatable, all the tether point and ballast points. The inflatable is able to withstand 40 mph winds. Multiple ballast points across the length of the building, totaling to 3 Ton of ballast securing the inflatable. Also fitted to the Inflatable Wings was a lighting system through the main seems, creating a fantastic display in the evenings.
Inflatable Tongue
The Inflatable Tongue, designed to fit in the top arch of the entrance of the Petit Palais. With limited mountings points, Bloon had to come up with a solution to rig the inflatable to the building. Multiple strong magnets and fail safe lines were fitted to the surrounding structure and metal frame of the entrance. Structural calculations were produced to ensure the Inflatable Tongue could stay installed even in the instance of the Inflatable Wings being out of the operational limit.
Bloon stayed on hand for the duration of the Inflatable Wings and Tongue being installed on display. This ensured peace of mind for the venue, artist and all the teams involved.
